The ship left Hamburg and made stops in LeHavre, France, Santander, Spain and Havana, Cuba prior to berthing in New Orleans. On 01 MAY 1876, William made a declaration of intent to become a citizen of the U.S. For reasons which do not appear in the records, his citizenship was not finalized until 17 NOV 1899 at Monroe, LA. Wilhelm Wunsch was the son of a railroad laborer, also named Wilhelm Wunsch. Wilhelm Friedrich August Wunsch 'Americanized' his name to William when he came to the United States and he used that name until his death. Wilhelmine Sophie Schulz was the daughter of a German linen weaver, Heinrich August Schulz.
