Mass of Christian burial for Jack H. Scroggins, 66, Nisland, will be conducted Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newell. The Rev. Ignatius Potts will officiate. Interment will be at Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche under the direction of Frost and Sons Funeral home in Belle Fourche. A rosary will be conducted tonight at 7 p.m. at Frost Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for St. Mary's Church.
Scroggins was a former Lead resident until retiring in 1977 when he moved to Nisland. He was born in Boswell, Oklahoma, January 18, 1915, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Scroggins. He spent his childhood in Irene and Sioux Falls (South Dakota) and in 1933 joined the Civilian Conservation Camp at Nemo.
Scroggins married Brenda Langmeyer, February 21, 1939 at Brookings. The couple farmed in the Timber Lake area before moving to Lead in 1950. He worked for Homestake Mining Company until retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Mary's church of Newell and United Steelworkers of America No. 7044 of Lead.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Nisland; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Christensen and Jacqueline Doug of Eugene, Oregon; four sisters, one brother, Sterling of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and one granddaughter.
