Shirley J. Ahlers, 76, of McHenry, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at her home in McHenry.
She was born July 1, 1934, in Crawfordsville, Ind., to Elmer Jr. And Marjorie (Gott) Berol. On June 25, 1955, she married H. George Ahlers in Chicago.
She had resided in Mount Prospect for 32 years before moving to McHenry 10 years ago. She was a homemaker the majority of her life. She worked at Minnesota Fabrics for more than 20 years in Des Plaines and Mount Prospect.
She was an avid camper and truly loved traveling throughout the United States, New Zealand and Mexico. She loved spending time with her children and was a doting grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, George, of 55 years; her four children, Kenneth (Debra) Ahlers of Williams Bay, Wis., Janine (Richard) Bruce of Youngsville, La., Steve (Cary) Ahlers of Lake in the Hills, and Amy (David) Wasmund of McHenry; her 11 grandchildren, Mark Kanner, Skye Fitch, Lauren Ahlers, Erin Ahlers, Ryan Bruce, Amber Wasmund, Meghan Bruce, Austin Ahlers, Brendan Wasmund, Tyler Ahlers, Carlie Wasmund; and her siblings, Suzan Clark, Mary Jean Buck, Bruce Berol and William Berol.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
No services are being held at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Montrose Cemetery, 5400 N. Pulaski Road, Chicago.
