OBITUARY
Hattie was born to George E. and Sallie Rhubema Boone West. She was the sixth of nine children, three of whom passed away in infancy, Sophia and twin boys Olin and Omen. Also preceding her in death were her parents, brother Bryant, sisters Esther Archer and Gladys Latta.
Aunt Hattie was an industrious lady as she managed West Variety Store for many years along with her home, a lovely flower garden and a garden from which she canned many quarts and pints of food. From these talents she shared among her friends, family and neighbors. Another talent our aunt shared was her crafts which ranged from crocheting, knitting, making pictures and much more.
Upon her retirement, Hattie visited her niece and nephew in California and Dallas, Tex. A highlight of her travels was her visit to her sister Ferne Chase at Arlington, Va. At each home she visited, she was shown many places of interest and she shared her many memories upon returning each time.
The last several years her interest and enthusiasm for the Senior Citizan Center was very important to our aunt. The companionship was good for all who gathered each month. I can not recall of a time she missed except when it stormed and the last one because she didn't "quite feel up to it."
Our Aunt Hattie was very fortunate to experience exceptionally good health through her many years of life. April 20 she underwent major surgery to correct a health problem but bounced back with her usual "vim and vigor," but unknown to any, she was to become ill and she left her family very suddenly June 3, 1987 at the Rawlins County Hospital, where everything that could be done for her was performed.
Hattie leaves to remember her, two sisters Ferne Chase and husband Arnold of Fairfax, Va., and Leila Morrison of Colby, along with brother-in-law Henry Archer of McDonald; nephews Arlie Archer and wife Delores, Ross Archer all of McDonald, Byron West and wife Ruby of Dallas, Rex., Gordon Latta and Mary Jo of California.
Nieces included Pearle Morrison of Colby, Marie Loppe and husband Bud, Gladyce Nau and husband Walt all of Yuma, Colo., Arline Stitt and husband Ed of Benkelman, Genene Morton and husband Russ of California and Joan Carribel of Viriginia.
There are a number of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will join in remembrance of her. Hattie's life touched many people, she will be missed by all.
