LOUDONVILLE Jane N. Capelle Johnston, 102, of Loudonville died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, October 18, 2014, at her residence. Born in Poestenkill, she was daughter of the late John Capelle and Jennie Near Capelle and wife for 55 years of the late William J. Johnston. She was raised in Poestenkill and was a graduate of Troy High School. She later resided on Eighth Street in Troy for 35 years prior to moving to Loudonville in 1975. With her husband, Jane was co-owner and operator of Wm. H. Young Monuments at Eighth and Hoosick streets in Troy for 35 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of Troy Germania Hall and formerly Christ Church United Methodist, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, sewing and traveling. Survivors include a sister, Evelyn M. Capelle of Loudonville; a nephew, George R. Backhaus Jr. of Averill Park; six grandnieces and nephews, Richard J. (Linda) Clark III, Marlene C. (Robert) Mizell, David A. (Diane) Clark, Mark W. (Carol) Clark, Michelle M. (Christopher Overcash) Backhaus, and Brian R. (Stacey) Backhaus and 12 great-grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, May W. Backhaus; a brother, John Capelle, and a niece, Marjorie B. and her husband Richard J. Clark Jr.
