William J . Johnston of Huntleigh Drive in Loudonville died Saturday in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a long illness.

Mr. Johnston was born in Center Brunswick and attended Troy High School. He had resided in Troy for 36 years and in Loudonville for the past 18 years.

He had worked for William H. Young Monuments in Troy for six years before buying the business in 1946. He operated the business until retiring in 1975.

Mr. Johnston was a member of Christ Church United Methodist in Troy and former member of the Kiwanis Club of Troy, the Troy Germania Hall Association and the New York State Monument Builders Association. He and his wife would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in September.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Capelle Johnston .

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy.

Burial will be in Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands.

Calling hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
