OBITUARY :
MR. WESLEY M. SWOPE, JR., 81, of 210 A Elder Avenue, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Monday evening, October 10, 2011 in Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, PA. He had been in failing health for the past four months and critically ill for the last week.

Born December 24, 1929 in Pen Mar, PA, he was the son of the late Wesley M. Swope, Sr. and Evelyn M. Swope.

Mr. Swope was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1948.

He served in the United States Navy from 1948-1952 where he was stationed in Key West, FL and Boston, MA.

He and his wife of over 60 years, Mrs. Emma Jane (Shindledecker) Swope, a resident of Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg, were married December 24, 1950.

Mr. Swope was employed at Landis Tool Company, Waynesboro, for 41 years. He retired in 1993.

He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro.

Mr. Swope enjoyed fishing, sports of all kinds, especially baseball and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Darla Adolini and Terry Swope, both of Waynesboro, Bradley Swope of Clear Spring, MD and Pamela Welty of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Loveus White of Baltimore, MD, Anne Hahn of Friends Creek, MD, and Betty Smith of Gettysburg, PA; two brothers, Robert Swope of Fairfield, PA, and Donald Swope of Waynesboro; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Frank Swope; and one sister, Evelyn Boyer.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 14, 2011 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Pastor Henry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 South Church Street, Waynesboro, PA, 17268.
