Daughter of John McMaster & Jane Donaldson, born in Scotland. Maggie first came to USA at age 2 (1863), & lived in Grand Rapids Michigan. She returned to Scotland with her mother, older sister Ann & younger brother Robert. Sometime after 1881, Maggie immigrated to USA. She married James McLean Monroe on 21 Mar 1883 in Chicago, Illinois. They had 5 children while living in Chicago; William Hugh, Jeanette Christine "Jess", James McLean,Jr, & Alfred John, Marian E. "Mae". The family moved west eventually settling in Salt Lake City, Utah where 2 more children were born; Frank Alexander & Ruth Esther. They moved to Nevada where husband died in 1911. After that, Maggie held the family together with help from the older boys. They moved to Eureka, Humboldt,CA after 1911. Then in 1928, the older 4 boys bought a wee house in Clear Lake, Skagit, WA for Maggie. The house is still in the family & 3rd & 4th generation Monroes still live there. She lived there until 1936 when she moved to Bellingham to be close to daughter, Jess. Maggie died in Bellingham from diabetes. She had a Christian Science Service & was buried in Bayview Cemetery.
