She went by her middle name of May. She first married Daniel Rhodes Hanna, on August 9, 1887. He was the very wealthy son of Ohio Senator, Marcus Alonzo Hanna. His family did not approve of him marrying her, and so they eloped to Michigan. They had three sons: Marcus Alonzo II (born 1888); Carl Harrington (born 1890); and Daniel Rhodes Jr. (born 1894). Daniel owned the Cleveland News newspaper, and had other significant financial interests. She divorced him in 1898, and received a lump sum payment of $150,000, plus $9,000 per year. She married Edmund Stallo on April 27, 1902. But she divorced him in 1912, for gross neglect, cruelty, and non-support.
