Walter S. Horst, 96, of Ephrata, went to be with his Lord Monday, May, 1, 2006, after a two week illness.

He was born in Farmersville, a son of the late Reuben W. and Frances S. Sweigart Horst. He was the husband of Lucy Brubacher Horst for 26 years in December. He had also been the husband of the late Miriam H. Moseann Horst for 44 years.

He was a member of The Village Chapel, Voganville, previously instrumental in starting Hinkletown Mennonite Church, and a former member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a member of the Christian Heralds Men's Chorus.

He had worked as a foreman in the pattern shop of the former Sperry New Holland for 49 years.

He and his wife Lucy hosted international students for ten years. He also enoyed traveling, gardening in his rose garden, volunteering, woodworking, bowling and golfing.

He was a Godly man that was an inspiration to all whom he met.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Kenneth M., husband of Sally Horst of Meadow Vista, Calif., and W. Dale, husband of Rosie Horst of Newton, Kan.; three daughters, Louise J., wife of Leon Hummer of Lititz, M. Darlene, wife of Barry Sellers of Lancaster, and J. Elaine, wife of George Haas of East Earl; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; nine step great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd S. Horst of Dayton, Va.

He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 Division Highway, Ephrata, with Pastor Jason Steffy and Pastor Jeffrey Horst officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. There will be no viewing at his request.
