Rock Musician. Jeffreys was a bassist for the musical group Cockney Rebel, which was popular in the 1970s. The band was formed in 1973 and also included Jean Paul Crocker, Steve Harley, Milton Reame, and Stuart Elliott. After the band's forming, they released the song 'Sebastian,' which was on their widely acclaimed album "The Human Menagerie" the same year. In 1974, they released their second single, 'Judy Teen,' which became a Top Ten hit. Their next album was entitled "The Psychomondo,' followed by their next album, a BBC Session entitled "At the BBC," recorded for disc jockey John Peel, also helped to further their career. In 1974, they also appeared at the Biggin Hill Air Show, and released another single entitled 'Big Big Deal.' In 1975, the band was renamed "Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel." Also that year, they released the album "The Best Years of Our Lives," and the chart-topping single 'Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me).' Around 1976, after a little less success than before, the band decided to follow up on solo careers, which saw a few of the members leave. Some of the members went onto create other musical groups including 'Be-Bop Deluxe' and 'Chartreuse.' The Rebel's other hits include 'Hideaway,' 'Loretta's Tale,' 'Crazy River,' 'Mirror Freak,' 'Muriel the Actor,' 'Chameleon,' 'Death Trip,' 'Rock and Roll Trip,' 'The Mad, Mad Moonlight,' 'Introducing the Best Years,' 'It Wasn't Me,' 'Panorama,' 'Back to the Farm,' '49th Parallel,' 'Another Journey,' 'Sweet Dreams,' 'Mr. Soft,' 'Singular Band,' 'Ritz,' 'Cavaliers,' 'Bad in the Corner,' 'Sling It!' and 'Tumbling Down.' Jeffreys died on December 21, 1988, in the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, over Lockerbie, Scotland. He was 36 years old.
