"Captain Thomas Jr. SMITH, Lost at sea off the coast of Mantanza Cuba 22 Aug 1830 on his way home to Portland, ME.
Thomas was Ancient Master of Doublin Lodge (Masonic) at Garwagh (720 Londonderry) & he commanded the Brigg Patriot (lost at sea with him). The only survivor of the wreck was said to have brought a small chest with private papers to Thomas' widow Rebecca BRITAIN. This chest was said to have been in posession of a Horatio Turner of St. Joseph, MO."
