Sarah J. Hetzel, 85, of 2001 Memorial Ave., formerly of Liberty, died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Sarah and her husband, Carl W. Hetzel, observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17, 2011.

Sarah was a member of the Friedens Lutheran Church, Liberty, having lived there for 53 years. During the past seven years she lived in Williamsport, she attended the Trinity United Methodist Church. She had worked for the former Wundies in Liberty.

Sarah was a member of the Friedens Ladies Aide, enjoyed crocheting, cooking, crafting, playing cards, table games and doing puzzles. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Born Aug. 23, 1926, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of L. Earnest and E. Allene Rose Derr.

Surviving in addition to her husband are sons, Robert E. (Marjorie) of Chambersburg, James E. (Dawn) of Bellefonte and Donald A. (Natalie) of Liberty; daughters, Constance L. (Peter Jr.) Lazich of Greencastle, Jacqueline A. D'Andrea of Trout Run and Jane H. (Thomas) Zimmerman of Palmyra; brother, L. Earnest (Ruby) Derr of Cogan Station; sisters, Bernice Herriman and Jean (David) Crain, both of Williamsport, and Margaret (Wayne) Aunkst of Muncy; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Sarah was predeceased by a son, Carl William Hetzel Jr., and sisters, Edna Salayda Keiper and Elsie Iona Derr.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Friedens Lutheran Church, Brick Church Road, south of Liberty, with the Rev. Dr. James R. Behrens officiating. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Knight-Confer's and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery, Liberty.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1971 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport, PA 17701 or the American Diabetes Assoc., 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
