MRS. M. J. JACKSON
DIED LAST EVENING
--------------
MOTHER OF SHERIFF JACKSON
PASSED AWAY AFTER WEEKS
OF ILLNESS
-------

Last night as the twilight hour closed the departing day Mrs. Martha Jarrell Jackson passed away at her home in this city, after a long and painful illness. For many weeks her family and friends and attending physician knew the end was fast approaching, all that earthly skill and love and affection fought for her recovery, but she sweetly sleeps after a long fought battle to awake on the Resurrection morn.

A sweeter or gentler character never lived. A consecrated Christian of the loveliest type of womanhood. Her life was devoted to her family, being a home-maker, her beautiful deeds were daily exemplified, and her children shall rise up and call her blessed, for few lives were more thoroughly consecrated or more freely given to the service of her maker and the children of whom she was so proud. She accepted her illness as her portion, and was ready when the summons came last evening at 8:30 o'clock. She leaves a heritage to her family worth more than great riches, a blameless and pure life, the fragrance of which will ever linger as a benediction.

Mrs. Jackson was the daughter of Susan T. and Stinson Jarrell, of Oglethorpe, and was born January the 17th, 1855, dying at the age of 61 years. She was married in 1874 to John Francis Jackson, who died March 20th, 1905. Six children survive her, Mrs. Jessie Jackson Reaves, of Greensboro, N.C., Mr. Walter E. Jackson, Mr. Henry J. Jackson, of Athens, Mr. Roy L. Jackson, of Marion, Ala., Mr. Paul E. Jackson of Mountain City, and Miss Frances L. Jackson, of Athens.

Mrs. Jackson joined the church when a child in her native town and has been a consistent member of the First Methodist church here since making Athens her home.

The funeral will be held at her late residence Monday.

The countless friends of the family will be deeply grieved in the announcement of her death, and sincerest sympathy goes out to the greatly bereaved family in the dark hour of sorrow.
~~~~~
The funeral will be conducted some time Monday morning at the residence, corner of Hancock and Harris streets, the pastor of the First Methodist, Rev. James C. Morris officiating. The following will be the pallbearers: Messrs. D. F. Miller, E. L. Smith, Sr., J. H. Dorsey, J. N. Webb, and J. F. Rhodes, and Dr. J. A. Hunnicutt, Sr.
