Mildred (May) Allen, 91, of San Antonio, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, October 3, with funeral services to begin at 11 a.m. at Evans Chapel United Methodist Church in Leona. Graveside services will follow in Evans Chapel Cemetery.
Mildred had been a resident of San Antonio since 1956 and was a lifetime member of Jefferson United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Sam Houston State University where she earned a bachelors degree in education. She briefly taught school in a one-room schoolhouse in Tomball. She later used her shorthand skills as a secretary for an oil company in Houston, where she met her husband Johnnie, whom she married in 1949. They enjoyed church functions, traveling and planning family get-togethers. Mildred a dedicated homemaker was famous for her fudge candy and pecan pies.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie E. Allen; and her parents, James Marion May and Anna (Cox) May, who were residents of Leona.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Jackson and husband Richie, of Austin; son, John Allen and wife, Becky, of Boerne; grandsons, Brad Jackson and his fiancée, Elisha Simpkin, of Austin, Jon Allen and his fiancée, Bonnie Getter, of Anchorage, Alaska; granddaughters, Alex Jackson of Austin and Ashly Allen of Boerne; and her nephew, Ted Dinkins of Brenham.
