Veronica "Babe" Wells, formerly of Mayville, died Friday, November 19, 2004 at home with her family. She was 85.
She was born May 27, 1919 at Mayville, the daughter of Howard and Ellen (Elliot) Lyman. She graduated from Marlette High School in 1938 and married Robert Wells on November 23, 1939 in Lake Orion. She was the laundry manager at the Caro Regional Center where she retired after 26 1/2 years of service. She was a charter member as well as a past president and secretary of the Mayville Golden Years Club, was a former president of the State Retirees Association at Caro, and Past Noble Grand of the Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge # 120 of Fostoria. She loved her grandchildren, enjoyed spending winters in Florida, playing shuffleboard, cards, dice and bowling.
Survivors include 3 children; eight grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a sister; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by husband, Robert on May 15, 1978; and a sister, Ula Roger in 1984.
A Rebekah memorial service was held Monday, November 22. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 23 at the Avram Funeral Home in Mayville. Pastor John Ball officiated, with interment at Rich Township Cemetery, Mayville. Arrangements were made by Avram Funeral Home, 6028 Lincoln St., Mayville, MI.
Memorials are suggested in care of the McLaren Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
