AUGUSTINE G. ASEVEDO, 75, a longtime resident of Deming passed away Thursday September 29, 2011 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening at 6 at Baca's Funeral Chapel where a prayer vigil will begin at 6:30 with Dr. Gilbert S. Arizaga M.D. leading the service. Mass of the Resurrection will be Wednesday morning at 10 at St. Ann Catholic Church with Fr. Enrique Lopez Escalera, Pastor officiating.
Concluding services and interment with honors will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
Augie, as many knew him, was born February 12, 1936 in Silver City to Juan and Guadalupe Garcia Asevedo. He graduated from Silver High School and afterward served his country honorably in the United States Navy. Upon his return he became an Inventory Supervisor and during his career he worked for Hamilton Construction, Brown & Root, and later with the New Mexico State Highway Department from which he retired. He enjoyed gardening, watching football and was a longtime member of St. Ann Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife Cecilia Dominguez Asevedo of Deming; daughter, Lupe Facio and her husband Martin of Deming; brother, Joaquin Asevedo and his wife Margaret of Silver City; 2 grandchildren, Monica and Carlos Caballero; 2 great grandchildren, Lorenzo Madrid and Xavier Almanza; stepchildren, Sandra, Yolanda and Mark Benavidez, his wife Nadia, and Mark A. Seely; and 2 step grandchildren, Jay Hussein and Xavier Benavidez. Augustine was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorenza Marquez Asevedo, 1 daughter, Martha Asevedo and his parents, Juan and Guadalupe Asevedo.
