Katherine was born in 1903 in Schoenchen, KS, to John and Lucy Herl. She was married in 1922 to Alois G. Befort.
She lived most of her life in Kansas City, KS, and raised and loved a large family of seven children, 30 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Katherine was a member of the Ladies of Columbus, St. Fitzsimmons Assembly and as a seamstress, she was a union steward in the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She dearly loved Alois, her family and her church.
Katherine is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Al and Midge Befort, Kansas City, KS, and Jim and Lenora Befort, Shawnee, KS; and one daughter and son-in-law, Luella and Patrick Doherty, Shawnee, KS. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor Graef, Elizabeth, CO.
