Obituary - Iva Marie (Sharp) Wells Piatt 1914-2006
Iva Marie (Sharp) Wells Piatt, youngest daughter of Charles Raymond and Jessie (Cummings) Sharp was born near Pawnee, Missouri on November 17, 1914 and passed away February 27, 2006 at Lamoni Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lamoni, Iowa at the age of 91 years. Marie graduated from Hatfield High School in 1932. She was married to George L. Wells of Kellerton, Iowa and to this union two daughters were born, Carolyn and Karen Sue. After the death of her husband in 1961, Marie moved to Lamoni to be with her aging parents and worked at Graceland College for the next 10 years. In 1971 she was married to Harry Piatt of Butler, Missouri. He passed away in 1989. Marie was a longtime member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now the Community of Christ. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands George L. Wells and Harry Piatt; sister Ida Mae Wells in December 1997; and two infant brothers, Cecil Huston Sharp and Oren Richard Sharp.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Greenman and husband Carlton of West Des Moines, Iowa and Sue Jackson and husband Sidney of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; three granddaughters, Pamela Dahl and husband Harry, Debra Albright and husband Jay, and Beth von Gemmingen and husband Christoff; one grandson Jorel Jackson and wife Monique; twin great-granddaughters, Katherine and Melissa Dahl; great- granddaughter BrookLynn von Gemmingen and one great-grandson, Christian Matthew Dahl. Also surviving is her stepfamily, whom she loved; daughters Betty Martens and husband Harley of Adrian, Missouri and Harriet Piatt of Independence, Missouri; three step-grandchildren, Carl Martens and wife Becky, Nan Richmond and husband Danny and Joel Martens and wife, Beth and their families; sister-in-law, Edith James of Mesquite, Texas; nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2006 at Lamoni Community of Christ with Evangelist Les Gardner and High Priest Barbara Higdon officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa. Arrangements were through Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established by the family.
