Lewis Barton Enlisted: from Lyons, Rose to Lieutenant
Lyons, March 16, -- Word was received here this morning of the death yesterday at Grand Ledge, Mich., of Lewis Barton, a former well-known resident of this town. Mr. Barton was 82 years of age and a son of the late Elisha and Freela Barton, pioneer residents and farmers of North Lyons. He left here about forty years ago to make his home in the West.
Mr. Barton enlisted from this village in the Ninth New York Heavy Artillery, and served three years, being discharged a lieutenant at the close of the war. He leaves his wife and a son, Claude Barton, of Grand Ledge, and a sister, Mrs. Phoebe Dunning, of this village.
The body will be brought here on Sunday morning at 10 o'clock and taken to Lyons South Cemetery, where the funeral will be conducted by Humanity Lodge, F.and A.M.
