One of three original carpenters for the Madison Barracks. Helped build the Sackets Harbor "ship house" for the unfinished New Orleans. War of 1812. Founder of Watertown's Universalist Church.

MORTALITY.---The venerable Chauncey Calhoun of this village departed this life at his residence last Thursday evening at the advanced age of 80 years. Mr. Calhoun was one of the earliest settlers as he was one of our most esteemed ad estimable citizens. The funeral was attended on Sabbath morning last, at the Universalist Church. The Rev. Pitt Morse, of this village, officiated. ---New York Reformer, 07 Aug 1856 p2 c5.

DIED. In this village, July 31st, Mr. Chauncy Calhoun, aged 80 years. Mr. Calhoun was one of the early settlers of this village; one of the principal founders of the Universalist Society; a man of principle and integrity--whose life uniformly illustrated his religious faith.---His "trust in the living God who is the Savior of all men, especially of those that believe," was confirmed and unshaken amidst the changes of life and perils of death. Patient and cheerful in sickness, he has passed to his "long home" in peace. His worthy companion with whom he has sojourned 55 years of his mortal pilgrimage; his children, grand-children, kindred, and many friends, will ever fondly cherish his memory.
