Michael passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 24th.
He was born in Salt Lake City to Charles Hopkins and Joyce Pugmire. After graduating from South High School in 1975 he moved to Seattle, WA where he graduated from Cosmetology School. He returned to Salt Lake to complete his training and obtain his Instructors License.
Michael was a Head Instructor for International Institute of Hair Design, then was a Co-Founder of Cove Point University of Hair Design. He was an Educator for many brands of hair products such as Helene Curtis, Paul Mitchell, Framesi, and Infausi. He also consulted for Al Massimo Salon Support, a local distributor, and its brands.
He was Co-owner of Salon Utopia and was responsible during his career for mentoring, teaching and apprenticing many people.
Michael was the "Ultimate Professional" and a highly respected stylist in Salt Lake for over 30 years.
He was preceded in death by Brother Richard Hopkins, Mother Joyce Pugmire, Grandparents Weldon and Evelyn Pugmire and Deward and Anna Lou Hopkins. Survived by Father Charles Hopkins (Nancy) of Saint George, UT. Brother Jeffrey Hopkins (Laura) Salt Lake City, UT. Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many dear friends.
Graveside services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 Highland Dr. on October, 4th 2011 at 12:00PM, where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Michael's name to your favorite charity.
