Francis Marion Case was the son of Chauncey Case (1802, CT-1884, IL) and Mary Elma Roberts (1810, PA-1855, IL). His family left Pennsylvania and resettled outside Wyoming, Lee County, Illinois (1850 US Census). Francis enlisted as a private at Alto, Illinois, August 12, 1862, and was mustered into Company K, 75th Illinois infantry, September 2. Private Case was severely wounded at Perryville, Kentucky, October 8, 1862, and subsequently discharged for disability May 2, 1863. John filed for a Civil War veteran's disability pension July 10, 1863, and received application No. 28,350 and certificate No. 21,267. He returned to Lee County where he married Cynthia Jane Clarke in 1867 and settled there for the rest of his life. He was a retired farmer and school teacher when he died at Paw Paw. After his death Cynthia filed for a Civil War widow's pension June 14, 1922, and received application No. 1,190,523 and certificate No. 919,244.
