Elva L. Allen, 79, of Chariton, Mo., in Putnam County, Mo., died Thursday, November 24, 1988 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

He was born May 29, 1909 to Charles and Rebecca Cormeny Allen in Putnam County, Mo. On December 8, 1932 at Lancaster, Mo., he married Virgie Iola Freeburn, and she preceded him in death in 1978.

Also preceding him were an infant son; a daughter, Beulah Boland; and a sister, Neva Evans.

Survivors are four daughters, Barbara Peckham of Lost Springs, Kan., Betty Tompkins of Colorado Springs, Colo., Bonnie Mendenhall of Hartford, Iowa, and Mary Oden of Unionville, Mo.; two sons, Charles Allen of Fort Myers, Fla. and Tom Allen of Centerville; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Zora Allen of Cincinnati.

He was a lifelong resident of Putnam County where he farmed all of his life. He was a member of the 18-80 Club in Centerville.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Husted-Ingersoll Funeral Home in Unionville, Mo., with the Rev. James Schweizer of Centerville officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery in Chariton, Mo.

A memorial to the 18-80 Club in Centerville has been established.
