Deceased Name: Holy Sepulchre Cemetery caretaker Anthony Brygider dies at the age of 81
Anthony Brygider was a tall, darling man who swept the woman he would marry off her feet the night they met -- at a ballroom dance class.

He met Sheila Banks at an old dance studio in Chicago where he practiced dancing. He drank some coffee with her and drove her home at the end of the lesson.

It was the beginning of a dance that lasted nearly 40 years.

"He was a good dancer," Sheila Brygider said. "I wasn't a good dancer, but he was."

Mr. Brygider died Nov. 30 at age 81. He had been in poor health for some time.

Mr. Brygider was born July 25, 1923, in Chicago, and raised with five brothers and sisters. After marrying in 1967, his wife moved into his home in Justice, where they spent all 37 years of their marriage.

The couple had no children.

Mr. Brygider became a security guard and worked for Kane Security. He also moonlighted for Catholic Cemeteries.

He worked as a caretaker for Holy Sepulchure Cemetery in Worth, helping in the cafeteria and doing various maintenance jobs throughout the grounds.

His wife said he never minded working in a cemetery.

"He just said he enjoyed doing the work and feeling he was helping out," she said. "He was a kind, generous, considerate loving person. He always had good things to say about everybody."

Mr. Brygader was also a hard worker who finished his security shift around 9 a.m., slept until about 1 p.m., and then went to work at the cemetery by 3. He would finish there at 8 p.m., go home and sleep for an hour, and return to his security job.

He suffered a stroke in 1999 but recovered fairly well, moving and speaking as he did before, his wife said. But his health took a turn for the worse, and during the past months, he needed a ventilator at Kindred Hospital, where he died Tuesday.

Mr. Brygider also is survived by three sisters, Lillian Brygider, Angie Lopez and Terry Hubert.

A funeral service at Damar Funeral Home, 7861 S. 88th Ave. in Justice, (708) 496-0200. A Mass at St Joseph's Church in Summit, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
