Myrtie Gore Saunders, age 94, of Burgaw, died Friday October 26, 2012 at Pender Memorial Hospital.
She was born December 17, 1917 in Brunswick County daughter of the late Marsden and Francis Robbins Gore. She was also predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Harris Lucas Saunders. She is survived by four daughters, Jeanette Saunders Jones and husband Morris Jones of Burgaw, Thelma Saunders Lamoureux and Dr. Kent Lamoureux Sr. of Endwell, NY, Bevret Saunders Reynolds and husband Ted Reynolds of High Point, and Mary Rowe Saunders Whisnant and husband Harry Whisnant of Hope Mills.
Eleven grandchildren, Donald Jones and wife Susan, Jeffrey Jones and wife Theresa, Kent Lamoureux Jr. and wife Denise, Edward Lamoureux, Victor Lamoureux and wife Sheri, Saundi Wenner and husband Mike, Ike Reynolds and wife Tonya, Heather Reynolds and husband James, Bengie Whisnant and wife Rhonda, Anthony Whisnant and wife Kathryn, and Emily Miller and husband Len. She loved all four of her children, 11 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren very much and always enjoyed having them come to her home. She was a member of Mount Holly Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a leader in Vacation Bible School, a member of Women's Missionary Union, and sang in the church choir for years. She had been active for 69 years in the Home Demonstration Club in Shelter Neck since 1943. She was Pender County Homemakers Woman of the year in 1977. She served as President and Secretary of her club as well as many other positions. She was a member of the Pender County Senior Citizen's Lamplighters singing group and enjoyed visiting rest homes and churches with this special group of friends in her senior years.
She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, flower and vegetable gardener, a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She worked on the farm and prepared many delicious meals for many people. She enjoyed helping her neighbors, family, and friends. She would be the one that always says, if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all.
We will miss our very special mother and love her very much.
