PIONEER SETTLER DIES OF OLD AGE
John Armstrong, Resident Here for Over Half Century, Succumbs.
Death Occurs at Home on Walnut Street This Morning After a Brief Illness That Seemed Serious—Funeral Plans Not Made—Sons on Railroad Line.
John Armstrong, a resident of Green Bay since the early fifties, and father of three well known railroad company employees, died at 8:15 o'clock this morning at his residence, corner of Walnut and Jackson streets, at the age of 91 years. Mr. Armstrong had been in poor health for about a year, but nothing serious in his condition was noticed until last night. He seemed to weaken and gradually grew worse until the end this morning. Old age caused death. Because of the fact that only one of the sons is in the city now, no definite funeral arrangements can be made.
John Armstrong came to Green Bay when this territory was almost a wilderness and when few people lived here. Following a residence of about ten years, Mr. Armstrong became the owner of property at Walnut and Jackson streets and has lived there for 45 years.
Surviving the decedent are his wife, who is 82 years old; four sons, William, Henry R., John C., and James T. Armstrong and a daughter, Mrs. Sarah Allen of St. Paul. The sons reside here with the exception of James Armstrong, who is agent for the St. Paul road at Fond du Lac.

ARMSTRONG FUNERAL TAKES PLACE TOMORROW
Rev. James F. Kleb of Christ Church to officiate at Funeral Services from Family Residence.
Funeral services for John C. Armstrong, whose death occurred yesterday morning, will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence, corner of Jackson and Walnut streets. Rev. James F. Kleb of Christ Episcopal church will conduct the service.
Mr. Armstrong was born at Rushlea, Ireland, on November 1, 1819, and came to New York city in 1853. On April 9, 1854, he was married to Miss Margaret Atkinson by the Rev. J. A. Spenser, rector of the Episcopal church at No. 26 East 24th street. The following fall, together with his bride, and accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Hillas Atkinson, life-long friends, they came to Green Bay, where they have since made their home. Shortly after arriving here, he entered the employ of Messrs. Lewis and John Day, and Joshua Whitney in the wholesale grocery business, where he was continuously employed for 30 years after which he retired and lived at his present home, 735 Walnut Street.
He was a member of the Church of England all his life. All of Mr. Armstrong's sons live here; his one daughter, Mrs. C. J. Allen, living in St. Paul, Minnesota.
