William was the son of Thomas PRINDLE and Mercy BATES.

In 1900, William was a farmer who could not read or write. He stated his birth date as Jun. 1866. His headstone reads 1865.

It was just the two of them in the 1905 census, and in 1910, they had an adopted daughter, Mildred, who was 3 years old, born in IA.

The 1915 South Fork, Jackson, IA State Census indicated his farm was valued at $3000 with a $500 encumbrance on the farm. It also stated that he was born in IL, and his parents were born in NY. Minnie was 41 years and Mildred was 7 years old.

By 1920, William owned his own home in Maquoketa, Jackson, IA. Their daughter was now 12 years, and they were living very near Walter PRINDLE (120.), a half-brother of his.

The 1925 State Census for Maquoketa, Jackson, IA gathered information that the Federal Censuses did not. The census was as of Jan. 1, 1925 and contained: William PRINDLE, 61, born in IL; father was Thomas PRINDLE born NY; mother was Martha [Mercy] BATES born NY. He was farming, and had been married in Maquoketa. Minnie, his wife was 51 years old. Her father was Jacob BABCOCK born NJ; mother was noted as Esther MARGESON born NJ.
