"Clarence was murdered in Hurstville, Jackson, IA. The case remains unsolved as of 2009. This is near South Fork, IA. The Story goes - Clarence was at the Tavern in Hurstville, Iowa. He either slipped and hit his head on the concrete steps or was hit over the head with a beer bottle. He was brought home and put to bed. Whoever brought him home did not wake or tell his wife that he was injured. When he did not arise in the morning, she discovered his injury. The official cause of death was ruled accidental. Clarence was well liked and didn't have any known enemies - But many at the time thought he was hit over the head with a beer bottle."
His death certificate stated that he died of a skull fracture with cerebral hemorrhage of 6 to 8 hours. Died at about 9:30 am.
