The Death of Joe's Brother, Fletcher Nolan Houston (as told by his daughter, Aleta Jo Houston Grotjan)
The family was sitting around the radio listening to the news of the war as they did every night. The ships which had been sunk were being read and the USS Ingraham was announced. Joe said "Oh damn, that's Pete's ship". Jo said that was the only time she ever saw her father cry. In the days that followed they got a telegram from the Navy stating that the ship had been lost and that Fletcher was presumed dead. Later another telegram followed that he was being declared "Lost in Action".
