MISS MCLENNAN, 73, PASSES AWAY

Was Librarian of Fayetteville Library Several Years

Was Ever Deeply Interested in Educational Work. Did Much To Upbuild Fayetteville Library. Forced To Resign Two Years Ago On Account of Ill Health.

Miss Christina McLennan, former librarian of Fayetteville, died Saturday at the Wellsville Sanitorium, Wellsville, N. Y., where she has been under treatment since last autumn.
Miss McLennan was born in the town of Lydon, Cattaraugus county, November 17, 1852, the third child of Colin and Ann McLennan, upon a farm of that place; the other members of the family being Judge P. B. McLennan (deceased) and D. F. McLennan of Syracuse, John McLennan of Melbourne, Fla., and Dr. R. C. McLennan (deceased), formerly of Fayetteville and Syracuse, and Mrs. William Johnson (deceased) of Franklinville, N. Y.
Miss McLennan obtained her education at Alfred and Cornell Universities and spent a year or more in study and travel in Germany and other European countries, becoming very proficient in the language, history and politics of these countries, preparing herself for the educational work which she expected to make her life work.
She became principal of the Portville Academy at Portville, N. Y. and also of the Ten Broeck Academy of Franklinville, where several years of excellent work brought her to the attention of the public and those interested with the result that she was elected and served two terms as School Commissioner of the eastern district of Cattaraugus county, making an enviable record in the discharge of the duties of her office.
She then came to Fayetteville and assumed the duties of librarian in the Fayetteville public library where for several years she applied her knowledge and efforts in helping to build up the institution of which the people of Fayetteville are so justly proud, retiring from that position when failing health made it impossible longer to continue.
Of a quiet and retiring disposition, her learning and attractive personality brought to her a wide circle of friends for whom she was ever ready to show every kindness and perform every duty for the benefit of her follow men.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Franklinville.
She was born in the Town of Lyndon, New York.
