Herbert L. Witmer, 71, a retired Pennsylvania Railroad conductor, of 446 Crescent St., died suddenly yesterday afternoon while visiting a cousin, Glen Witmer, of Bonnybrook, near Carlisle. He had also been employed in the state Department of Property and Supplies.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Harrisburg Moose Lodge and the Central democratic Club.
He is survived by three sons, Mervin L., of Enola Mounted Route; Gerald G., of Mt. Holly Springs, and Herbert L., Jr., of Melbourne, Fla., a daughter, Mrs. Russell Sholly, of Harrisburg R.D.: a brother, Preston, of Shippensburg R.D.4: four sisters, Mrs. Esther Waggoner and Mrs. Mabel Merris, both of Mechanicsburg: Mrs. Paul Shettel, of Waynesboro, and Mrs. Lester Kauffman, of Hagerstown, Md., and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home at 37 E. Main St., Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Lester M. Kauffman, his brother-in-law, officiating. Burial will be in Stone Church cemetery, near Wertzville.
