GRACE TIBBETS VAN MATRE
Grace Tibbets Van Matre, 79, a resident of The Dalles since 1922, died at a local nursing home on March 15.
She was born March 28, 1906 in *Knappa [NAMPA], Idaho to Barnhart and Luella Kramer.
She graduated from The Dalles High School in 1923 and married Roy Tibbets that year. He died in December of 1963. In August of 1971 she married Marion Van Matre. He died in January of 1976.
Mrs. Van Matre was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Rebekah Lodge, Mill Creek Grange and the Quinette Club. She worked for many years at The Dalles Cherry Growers as a manager-chemist in the maraschino cherry department.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Frances) Berki, The Dalles; a step-daughter, Marilyn Bauer, Kelso, Wash.; a step-son Don Van Matre, Crescent City, Calif. 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A son, Lester (Bud) Tibbets died in 1964.
Funeral services will be at Zion Lutheran Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Delmor Anderson offIciating. Entombment will be at The Dalles IOOF Memorial Mausoleum.
Spencer, Libby & Powell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
