Ancestory.com (as of May 2021) has her parents names listed as Peter and Catharine Carrico. They were living in Montgomery County, MD at the time of the first U.S. Federal Census in 1790. - Ray Santopietro (descendant from her Wotring and Roth Family offspring)

MELINDA VIOLINDA "VERLINDA" CARRICO WOTRING was born 12 May 1777 in MD. However, In the 1850 US Census when you look at the original handwritten form, her name is clearly written as VIOLINDA; however, her son, William C. Wotring, provided the name of VERLINDA for her West Virginia Death Record together with the information that she was born in West Virginia in Prince George; however, the 1850 Census clearly shows she was born in Maryland. The attached Death Certificate is a transcription without the possibility of viewing the original handwritten documentation.

Originally I showed Melinda and her husband, Daniel's burial to be on a farm south of Aurora, but I believe that the Aurora Pioneer Cemetery must be the location since that is actually on a farm and is where the early settlers were buried.

Of course when she died in 1857 the state was still known as Virginia.
Following Virginia's decision to join the Confederacy in 1861, fifty (50) of the Western Counties of Virginia which are mostly west of the mountains voted to became a part of the Union as a separate state known as West Virginia which became effective on June 20, 1863 thus explaining why sometimes the same place is referred to as Virginia and after 1863 it is called West Virginia.
