Ruth L. Trone, 88, of Sheldon, Conn., formerly of Astoria, Ill., passed away Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn.

She was the devoted wife of Collis Trone, who passed away in 2006.

Ruth was born in Browning, Ill., on Oct. 24, 1922, the daughter of Edward Dewey Stambaugh and Muriel Edith (Cox) Stambaugh.

She graduated from Rushville High School in 1940 and married Collis Trone in Palmyra, Mo., on Dec. 6, 1941.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Linda (and Greg) Cerminara of Shelton, Conn.; two sons, Eddie (and Gloria) Trone of Folkston, Ga., and David (and Sharon) Trone of Keokuk, Iowa; and one sister, Norma (and Verle) Chockley of Newcastle, Ind.

Along with her husband, Ruth was also preceded in death by her son, Jerry, and her brother, Homer Stambaugh.

Ruth was totally devoted to Collis and stood by him through his many career changes.

It was quite a transition from farmer to minister, and it was Ruth who kept everything running smoothly.

Ruth had several jobs herself, including nurse's aide, salesclerk at J.C. Penney and secretary to the director of public relations at York College in York, Neb.

She loved to read and especially liked books about the Amish. She also loved china painting, and her plates are displayed in the home of her daughter.

She enjoyed collecting poems and wrote a beautiful poem about heaven after her son, Jerry, died.

During her school years, she was an accomplished singer and had the leading role in many performances.

Interment will be in the South Fulton Cemetery in Astoria, Ill.
