George Washington Robbins Jr., 88, affectionally known as G.W. , died Jan. 5, 2011 at Matthews presbyterian Hospital. George was born in Nash County Apr., 26, 1922, son of George W. Robbins Sr. & Martha Womble Robbins.

George was a graduate of Red Oak High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War 11 from Nov. 30, 1942 thru Nov. 25, 1945 in the European Theater of Operation, England, France, Germany & Belgium. In his civilian life he worked at Helig Meyers Furniture Co. for 42 years, first in Rocky Mount the in Tarboro where he retired as manager of the Tarboro store in 1987. George was a charter member of the Tarboro Church of Christ, later moving to the Charlotte area where he worshipped with the Idle wild Christian Church, now Hope Christian Church in Mint Hill. Mr. Robbin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lillian Wester Robbins.
