Nathan Appell was a theatrical owner and operator. He was one of the best known theater men in Pennsylvania. He was head of the Nathan Appell Amusement Enterprises which operated theaters in York, Hanover, Reading and Lancaster, PA. When he was 18 years of age he started in the theatre organizing plays that were affordable to everyone. He later managed the Grant Opera House in Harrisburg and several others. Appell also opened the Highland Park stock in York which operated throughout New England. He died at his home in York, PA of a heart disease that was complicated by asthma.
