Meridian Star, Friday, 2 Feb 1962 - Funeral services will be held this afternoon or possibly Saturday for Benjamin Thompson of Newton, who died on Hwy 80 nearr Lawrence abt. 5:30 am Thurs. He & wife were enroute to Jackson. A dau. was planning on meeting them in Forest to drive them-because Mrs.Thompson doesn't drive. He slumped at the wheel, veered across the road, hitting an embankment. Mr. Thompson was born 20 Mar 1892 at Randall Hill in Jasper Co. His parents were Charlie George & Mattie Nell Parker Thompson. He was a retired employee of T. J. Moss Tie Co. in Newton. Survivors: Widow; 2sons: B. Dale Thompson-Baton Rouge & Robert L. Thompson-Atlanta, GA; 2 daus: Mrs: J. M. DeBose-Wilmer & Mrs. B. C. Freeman-Forest; 4sis: Mrs. Steve Brogan, Mrs. Vinnie Harris, Mrs. Sam Warner & Mrs. Laura Ritchie; Mother: Mattie who is 102 yrs old. 7 gch & 1 g-gch. The body is at Hutson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Masonic Cem.
