Garland Lemuel Frye, 83, of Mt. Jackson, died Friday, September 16, 2011 at Royal Haven.

Garland was born August 7, 1928, the son of the late Luther L. and Alice Mauck Frye.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Jackson Cemetery with Reverend Michael Dettmer officiating.

There will be no visitation or viewing, but friends are welcome to sign the register book at Valley Funeral Service today.

Garland was a member of Mt. Jackson United Methodist Church. He worked as a lineman for Shenandoah Valley Electric Co-op for 42 years, was a U.S. Army Sergeant, served in the Korean War and was a life member Mason at Mt. Jackson Lodge #103 and a life member of VFW Post 2447.

Garland is survived by his wife, Iona Funkhouser Frye; his sister, Ruby Frye Phillips, Mt. Jackson and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Frye Lineweaver.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Mt. Jackson United Methodist Church, 141 Orkney Drive, Mt. Jackson, VA 22842 or Mt. Jackson Fire & Rescue, P.O. Box 251, Mt. Jackson, VA 22842.
