"Former Kankakee Alderman B. Wayne Cunnington, 78, of Kankakee, died today (March 8, 1999) at Miller Healthcare Center, Kankakee.
Mr. Cunnington retired in 1985 after 36 years with Kankakee Auto Leasing, where he was fleet manager and vice president.
He had been president of the Kankakee Rotary in 1972; president of the Kankakee Chapter of the Jaycees; a Kankakee Alderman of the 6th Ward for 16 years, 1955-1971; and a 50-year member of the Kankakee Masonic Lodge, Bloomington Consistery. He was a member of the Kankakee Elks.
He volunteered at the Kankakee Community Chest.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army in the Asiatic Pacific region. He was a member of the Kankakee VFW.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a Masonic service at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, where he was a member and past president of the Methodist Men. The Rev. Leah Pogemiller will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital or to his church.
He was born May 20, 1920 in Hinckley, the son of Bloice and Bertha Kewley Cunnington.
A 1936 graduate of Piper City High School and 1939 graduate of Gallagher Business School, he also attended the University of Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Yvonne Jackson, whom he married June 1, 1941 in Piper City; one son, Thomas Cunnington of Kankakee; three daughters and sons-in- law, Karen and Richard Kozuch of Manteno, Judy and Greg Shelton of Russell, Ky. and Cheryl and Marv Pauly of Sheboygan, Wis.; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Helen and Nate Parsons of Ocala, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
A sister, Margery is deceased."
