VASILIOS "BILL" KOURIS

A funeral services for Vasilios "Bill" Kouris was conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 1997 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 405 N St., Rock Springs. The Very Rev. Lukas Kotzakis officiated. A prayer service was conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997 at the Vase Funeral Chapel, 154 Elk St., Rock Springs.

Military graveside funeral services and interment were in the Mountain View Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ned Greenhalgh, Ted Greenhalgh, Steve Greenhalgh, Stanley Kouris, Gust Kouris and Darin Budak. Honorary pallbearers were Jamse Karras, Tom Polychronis, Lonnie Johnson and Michael Budak.

Kouris, 71, of 1314 Lowell St., Rock Springs, died at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997 at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs where he had been a patient for one day. A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Kouris had been in ill health for the past two years.

He was born March 15, 1926 in Hanna, the son of the late Marinos and Koula Frangoudakis Kouris. Kouris attended schools in Reliance and was a graduate of Reliance High School with the class of 1944.

Kouris was a retired U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II.

He was the owner and operator of the Kouris Insurance Company in Rock Springs for several years.

He was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, the Downtown Merchants Association, the Motel and Tourism Association, the Chamber of Commerce, a past post commander for the American Legion, the BPO Elks, a board member for Southwest Counseling for eight years, and a tax aid coordinator for AARP for the State of Wyoming for four years.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Rock Springs; three sons, Kraig Kouris of Rock Springs, Bill and Sharon Kouris of Sacramento, Calif., and Michael and Dianna Kouris of Riverton; two daughters, Vickie Budak of Rock Springs and Charlotte Kouris of Elko, Nev., one stepdaughter, Jackie Carlson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gust and Helen Kouris of Moline, Ill., and Stanley and Sophie Kouris of West Jordan, Utah; one sister and brother-in-law, Goldie and James Karras of Murray, Utah; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Kouris of Cheyenne, and Zara Kouris of San Leandro, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one aunts, Melba Kouris of Salt Lake City; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Kouris was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrea and Michael Kouris and one sister.
