Mrs. Lucenda [d. cert: Lucinda] Margaret Gowen, 83, resident of Dallas 39 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Gumm, 2011 Michigan, following a long illness.
A native of Adair County, Kentucky, Mrs. Gowen came to Dallas in 1902 with her husband, the late Thomas Jefferson Gowen. They operated a grocery store until 16 years ago when Mr. Gowen formed a partnership in the produce business with a son. Mr. Gowen died six years ago.
Mrs. Gowen is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gumm and Mrs. Pearl Wheeler, Plano; a brother, Lincoln Floyd, Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a. m. Friday at 2011 Michigan by the Rev. John Lloyd Smith. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park. Ten grandsons will be pallbearers: William E. Gumm, James C. Gumm, Sr., Charles T. Gumm, Sr., John L. Gowen, Jr., T. V. Wheeler, Edwin Wheeler, Leon Speckman, Phil Kirkpatrick, L. D. Scott, and Sam Thompson.

Regarding her name:
You can leave it as "Lucenda" but just for the record, in the 1860, 1870, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 censuses, the death index, her death certificate, the 1934 and 1938 city directories, and on the Kentucky Marriage record her name is listed as Lucinda. The obituary and the stone are typos. There should be no doubt that Lucinda was her name.
