Confederate officer. He was captain of company H of the 27th Virginia Infantry, also known as the Stonewall Brigade. After the war he became the county clerk of the Rockbridge County Circuit Court for 34 years.

Capt. John Clinton Boude, clerk of the Circuit Court of Rockbridge for the past thirty-three years, president of the Association of Clerks of Virginia Courts, a prominent Mason and Odd Fellow, a lawyer by profession and a man of means, died suddenly at Lexington, yesterday, aged sixty-three.
