He was united in marriage on May 14,1896 with Martha M. "Mattie" Forrest, in Norwood, Wright County, Missouri. To this union 5 known children were born.
He and Mattie had either divorce or she had died by 1930. He is listed in the 1930 census as divorced, where as in the 1940 census it says widower (hadn't remarried to anyone's knowledge), He must of been visiting his son in 1930 since he was back in Missouri before 1934. I have not found Mattie's place of death, date or place of burial.
Apr. 12, 1934, his half-sister (daughter from his Dad's 2nd wife) who wasn't quite 16 & expecting (he was 64) filed a Paternity Suit against him. Charges were dropped a month later, after she changed her story. Family story is; no one knows who the baby's father was or why she claimed it was him or if in fact it was true. With this happening, he left Wright County, Missouri, moving to Fresno County, California, where one son and daughter lived with their families. His half sister moved to live with family in Springfield, giving the child up for adoption when it was born.
Their children are:
Amos E. Caudle 1897-1971
Elijah Clifford 'Lige' Caudle 1899-1982
Mary Lavada Caudle Green 1901-1990
Hosea Nicholas Caudle 1902-1990
Otis Caudle 1904-1904
