BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Joan Barker Lawson, 71, of 5006 Ashton Road, Fayetteville, N.C., died at her home Friday (Dec. 7, 2001).

She was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, Fayetteville, and was a member of her church choir and a former member of the oratorio singers at Methodist College. She was also a Daughter of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by five children, Michael, Dawn S. Maynor, Robin, Dana and David.

Surviving are her husband, retired Master Sgt. Richard Lawson, Fayetteville; son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Deborah Lawson, Norton, Va.; two brothers, David Barker and Marvin (Buddy) Barker, both of Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren, Amber Maynor Jones and husband Mitchell, and Glenn Marshall Maynor II, both of Fayetteville, Amber Nicole Lawson and Richard Scott Lawson, both of
Norton, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Gavin and Harrison Clay Jones, all of Fayetteville.

Memorial services were held Sunday (Dec. 9, 2001) at the Christus Victor Lutheran Church, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dennis Cook
officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Cemetery near Big Stone Gap with the Rev. Roy LaDuke and the Rev. Terry Porter officiating.

Friends may call at any time at the home of Margaret and David Barker, 106 Sycamore Ave., Big Stone Gap.
