V."5 HAWKINS (FRANCIS "FRANK"4, BENJAMIN3, BENJAMIN2, JOHN1) was born in 1831 in near Salvisa, Mercer County, Kentucky, and died November 02, 1921 in Mercer County, Kentucky. He married EMMA E. GRITTON abt. 1873 in Mercer County, Kentucky. She was born November 1847 in state of Kentucky, and died March 20, 1918 in Mercer County, Kentucky.

The 1870 census for Lawrenceburg, Anderson County, Kentucky lists Van B. Hawkins, age 36, a farmer and head of the household, Livana, age 28, keeping house, Fanny, age 6, William, age 5, and Forrest (?), age 1.

The 1880 census for Anderson County, Kentucky lists Van B. Hawkings, age 49, head of the household and a farmer, his wife, Emma E., age 30, a son, Claude L., age 5, and a niece, Fannie Lanham, age 17, music teacher, born in Texas.

The 1900 census for Lawrenceburg (South), Anderson County, Kentucky lists Van Hawkins, age 68, head of the household and a farmer, his wife, Emma, age 52, and a son, Colon, age 14.

The 1910 census for Lawrenceburg, Anderson County, Kentucky lists S. V. Hawkins, age 79, head of the household and a farmer, his wife, Emma, age 62, and a son, Colon, age 23. According to the census record, the couple had two children both whom were still living.

The 1920 census for Precinct No. 6, Mercer County, Kentucky lists Colon Hawkins, age 34, a mail carrier, his wife, Kitty, age 33, a daughter, Vanita, age 5, and his father, Van, age 88, a widower.

Will of S. V. Hawkins Mercer County, Kentucky Will Book No. 20, p. 142 I, S. V. Hawkins, of Salvisa, Mercer County, Kentucky, being over twenty one years of age, and of sound and disposing mind and memory, make and publish this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking any will I may have heretofore made. First, I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be first paid out of my estate. Second, I hereby devise and bequeath to my beloved wife, Emma Hawkins, the one third of my real estate and personal property to be received by her in lieu of dower and in full of all claims out of my estate, the same to own and control during her life or widowhood. That at her death or whenever she ceases to be my widow, that is, marry again, then I desire and it is my will that said real and personal property shall go to my two sons, C. L. Hawkins and C. J. Hawkins, to them and their heirs to be jointly and equally divided. Further I will that no unusual or unequal gifts or donations be made to either of my two sons, C. L. Hawkins or C. J. Hawkins, by my widow said Emma Hawkins. Third, I devise and bequeath the remaining two thirds of my real estate and personal property to be jointly divided between aforesaid sons, C. L. Hawkins and C. J. Hawkins, to them and their heirs to hold and convey at their will or pleasure. Fourth, I designate to facilitate the disposition of my real estate the values of my house, lots and their appurtenances as follows: The house which I now live ....................................................... $3000. The house across the street joining the Nelson property......... .$1500. The house in north Lawrenceburg, Anderson Co., Ky.................$1800. Division of said real estate to be made according to value of property at the time of disposal or sale. Fifth, I give and bequeath to my younger son, C. J. Hawkins, one automobile which he is now using, value $400. for services rendered in caring for me and my wife. Sixth, I hereby nominate and appoint my two sons, C. L. Hawkins and C. J. State of Kentucky, County of Mercer The foregoing will was this day produced into open court and proven by the oath of F. G. Terhune a subscribing witness thereto who also proved the attestation of H. J. Miller the other subscribing witness thereto and ordered to be recorded which is done. This Nov. 7, 1921.

S. V. Hawkins died at his home in Mercer County on November 2, 1921. He died at the old Hawkins home place, the same house where he was born 90 years earlier

Obituary of S. VAN Hawkins (The Harrodsburg Herald, Friday, November 11, 1921) Mr. S. Van Hawkins, a venerable and highly respected gentleman of the Salvisa section, died last Thursday at the ripe old age of 91 years and eight months. He was a splendid, old-time gentleman, and has been a useful citizen. His funeral was held at the residence conducted by Rev. W. D. Moore and Rev. Ackerman, and the interment was in the Hebron cemetery. He is survived by two sons, Prof. Claude Hawkins, of Wilmore, and Mr. C. J. Hawkins, of Salvisa.
