Andrew Adams took his first steps in Pendleton Dist, SC. At about 6 years of age he moved with his parents to Habersham (now White) Co, GA where he grew to manhood near Mt Yonah. At an early age he was persuaded to the Missionary Baptist faith most likely due to the influence of his uncle Nathaniel and a first cousin. Shortly after his marriage, Andrew followed Nathaniel into the Cherokee Nation in Northwest Georgia. There he settled near the Sonora Community where he would remain the rest of his life. Somewhere along the way he had answered a call to the ministry and started working closely with his Uncle Nathaniel and his cousin James who were also Baptist Ministers. In 1840 he and his family were enumerated in Cass (now Gordon) Co, GA. At one time Andrew appears to have been a tax collector. At other times he gave his occupation as farmer and Baptist Minister. In 1860 he was listed on the Slave Schedules as a slave owner. Shortly after his arrival in Cass Co Andrew became a member of the Bethesda Baptist Church near Red Bud. He remained a member of this church and even served as its pastor for 20 years. In 1851 Andrew and his cousin James along with William Wright were responsible for organizing the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Gordon Co. Andrew and his family all survived the Civil War including a son who volunteered for the Confederacy. After the war his family began to leave Gordon Co. Some went to Arkansas, and several went to Atlanta.
A few years before his death he became ill and so feeble that he had to be replaced as the pastor of Bethesda Bapt. During a revival or protracted meeting at Bethesda, the Rev. Adams died leaving "many friends and relatives to mourn his departure." His children were: Edith M (1835), Cicero Columbus (1837), Bethena Elizabeth (1838), Nancy (1841), Samantha C (1843), Mary J (1845), James M (1851), Sarah Ellen (1850), Frances C (1854), Margaret (1856), Laura Ann Callie (1857), Hezeltine Judson(1858), Susan F (1859), Winfield Washington (1861).
