U.S. Congressman. Moving to his family’s estate at Auburn, New York, in 1796, he was appointed justice of the peace in 1809 and served as Sheriff of Cayuga County, (1815-19, 21-25). In 1827, he was elected as a Jacksonian to the Twentieth Congress, serving until 1829. After his term, he United States Marshal of the northern district of New York, (1837-41).
