KILLED BY LIGHTNING
During the severe thunderstorm of last Sunday, Mr. Cornelius Murphy, a resident of the town of Glenmore, in this county, was killed outright by a stroke of lightning. Mr. Morris Casey, who was in the house at the time, gives us the particulars. The lightning struck the chimney of the house and followed this down to the sitting room, breaking the wall and badly tearing the building in its passage. Mr. Murphy was sitting near the chimney; the lightning struck him in the mouth and seemed to have literally burned his head and throat. He was picked up by his friends and every means used for restoration, but he expired in about three minutes after the stroke. Mr. Murphy was a farmer very generally known and respected throughout the county. He leaves a widow and six young children. He was forty-five years of age. The neighbors and many friends of the deceased from Depere and this city attended his funeral on Tuesday. The procession was an extremely large one.
