Walter Nichols, 78, ofShelby township, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at William Beaumont Hospital, Troy. He was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wis. Mr. Nichols owned Otto Schemansky & Sons Monument Co. Relatives said he loved his family, his dogs, up north, and his work as a monument maker. He is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Walter B. 9Laurie) Nichols, Mary (Paul) Weeks, William (Kathy) Nichols and Susan (Arnie) Lesczcynski; brother Bill and Conrad; sister, Joan; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who called him "Papa". A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church, 41233 Ryan Road (north of 18 Mile Road) in Sterling Heights. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Utica. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. today and 1-9 p.m. Sunday at Wasik Funeral Home, 49150 SChoenherr (north of 22 Mile Road), Shelby Township. Additional visitation 10 a.m. Monday at the church until the time of the Mass. Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
